A man has been arrested following the death of a woman in a quiet suburb.

Emergency services were called to an incident in Greystoke Gardens, Southmead, Bristol shortly before 10.10pm on Tuesday.

The woman – whose age has not been unconfirmed – was pronounced dead at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police say the death is currently being treated as suspicious.

On Wednesday, a crime scene was in place as several forensic investigators and Major Crime Investigation Team detectives combed for clues.

A footpath in Greystoke Avenue was cordoned off as dozens of drops of blood were examined and swabbed as part of the investigation. 

A force spokesperson said: ‘The death is currently being treated as suspicious pending the results of a post-mortem examination to establish the cause.

‘The woman has yet to be formally identified and her next of kin have yet to be traced.

‘A man in his fifties was arrested from the address in connection with the investigation and remains in police custody today, Wednesday 17 May.

‘Residents will continue to see an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues and anyone with any concerns following this tragic incident can speak to officers at the scene.’
