From Icon Park to Orlando Science Center, much to sip and savor – Orlando Sentinel

Fans of Orlando Science Center’s signature Science of Wine fundraising event have lots of new to look forward to when the event returns on April 22, including a brand-new partnership with Florida Dairy Farmers. And you can probably guess what that means.

Cheese!

Cheese and wine pairings facilitated by the Florida Dairy Farmers and Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits are new to "Science of Wine" this year at OSC.

Thusly, Florida Dairy Farmers and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits have partnered to present a series of pairings. Throughout the evening, three 20-minute mini-seminars will feature four wine pairings (a combination of classic and trendy wines) and local cheeses, including Hawthorne Creek Creamery Tomme and Gouda. Guests will learn about the sips, snacks and other accouterments that make a perfect pairing.

Additionally, Orlando’s own Advanced Sommelier Melissa McAvoy, owner of Swirlery Wine Bar — the critic’s top Wine Bar pick in this year’s Orlando Sentinel Foodie Awards — will be taking over Dr. Dare’s Lab to share her experience and answer questions in a science-driven activity where knowledge comes in white, red and rosé. That said, fans of the stronger stuff can celebrate the addition of cocktails into the event’s mix. Same goes for teetotalers, as nonalcoholic options also are available.

Science of Wine returns to OSC on April 22 with fun, new programming amid old favorites.

Tickets ($100 for members; $125 for nonmembers) are available at osc.org/wine and include unlimited food and wine sampling, as well as access to a silent auction featuring travel packages and other unique items.
